Which Travel Bag

I am going to Southeast Asia for 1.5 months in January and I am trying to figure out what bag I should take.

I think you need to spend an afternoon getting about on public transport in your local town with a filled 65L or 90L pack as a taster of what the reality of travelling with it would be like.

I don't think the exact model of pack is going to be the key issue!

Personally I go for 35L. I don't want to preach that my preference for light travel is best but that 90L sounds a nightmare to me and you should give it a try beforehand. It's the only way you'll know.

I agree with Andyf. I always travel with a 35l but we are all different and don't have the same needs (nor the same physical resistance!). So if you test what it feels like to carry a filled 65l, maybe it will help you on your decision. Personally, i prefer a backpack than a bag, i find it much easier to walk with weight on my back than on the side, but again this is a personal matter. Plus, it totally depends on your style of travelling: staying 2 or 3 weeks at the same place is different from moving from one place to another every 2 or 3 days; also, it's not because you'll be travelling for 1,5 months than you need to carry clothes for that period of time (it's easy to wash your clothes when you're travelling and in SEA it will surely not ruin your budget ) so i think you must take all those aspects into consideration as well.

Good luck and happy travel!

I can't imagine hauling around a 65 litre in SE Asia, let alone a 90 litre behemoth. To each their own.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Terry

Yeah, i dont want to jump on the bandwagon, but hauling around a big pack isn't fun at the best of times, add in the heat and humidity of SEA, and i think you'll get sick of the weight fairly quickly.

35l is pretty much the volume of choice for alot of experienced backpackers, enough room for your requirements and usually light enough for when you need to run for that last bus.

Yeah,90L Kathmandu bag is one of the best opition because you are going to travel but one thing you must keep in mind that quality bag is your first priority otherwise may be you are in trouble with the low quailty bag....
