Hi, not sure if this helps but easiest hot springs to visit are at Beitou in Taipei, take mrt to Xinbeitou and you've the hot springs, a hot springs museum, and Hell valley geothermal to see. It's pretty developed but cheap admission.
The longshan temple night market in Taipei was my favourite.
We had a bad experience with a tour company, a south African guy trading as Green Island Adventures.
