STA Flights & Visa deal

Foxy1991 has indicated that this thread is about Visas (Australia)

Taking the visa by itself, it is better to apply for it via the . Firstly because it's a direct application to where it has to go (a company would be doing the same on your behalf), and secondly because it's cheaper. You may also not want to give your passport information to a company, although if booking a flight with them it might be required anyway.

Have you asked how much STA will charge for organising the WHV with them - and also what the difference in flight price is?

I haven't received any prices just yet, the email I got back just informed me that they do do discounted prices and then they asked for more information on my trip. So I explained in a bit more detail what we are doing and when we are doing it and I am waiting on a response now. Will post up the response when I get it

Hey,

I have had various replies from STA travel regarding flights and stuff, they say they do include the WHV visa in the prices they quote and its looking like around £600/700 for both

Do the quotes specifically say they include the cost of the visa AND flights? Or does it just refer to their "handling charges" for organising the visa(s)?

The WHV for Australia currently costs AU$420, which works out to be around GB£240 with the current exchange rate. If a quote for flights AND visa is given, then you can deduct the visa cost to work out the flight cost.

STA Travel (UK website) is actually being upfront regarding the difference between visa charges if you apply direct or if you go through them (you don't always get this with companies that offer such a service). has information on visa costs, including the extra they charge for "handling" the application on your behalf.

All I can advise is DO NOT go with STA Travel. They have been nothing but horrible regarding my flight date changes. Never again will I make a booking through them.

Hi Foxy,

If I was applying for a work Visa I would apply via the Australian website. Any problems and you are talking to the organ grinder not the monkey as the saying goes.

Just think about it, STA like all companies are in the business of making money and they are not there to provide a service without charging for it,

Get a breakdown of the flights and Visa charge from them and do a comparison.

Also don't just go to one agent for flights get about 4 costings.

I always get a few estimates for flights having first done my own research on the costs. Tell each company that you are doing comparisons to let them know you are looking for a good deal.
There is nothing to be embarrased of if you are trying to save money. It's your money so look after every penny.

I would also advice you checking the routing making sure any stops on route are correct.
One time I managed to get a good deal with Flight Centre (wouldn't use them again) one of the flights would have taken us back to our original starting airport. It was only when I tried to book in on line that I realised what FC had done.

When I tried to sort this out in Dominica with Flight Centre by e-mail and phone they wouldn't accept responsibility just said the flight routing had changed since we booked, which was complete nonsense.

As it happened we explained to the check in desk and he sorted it out for us without charging us anything.

Companies make mistakes so check it out before traveling,

Keep safe out there

That sucks you had A rough time with them, what was the issues you had and what did they do to make them a no go in your eyes?

Hey Jeanie,

Thanks for all the advice, I think the point that drew me to STA the most was the flight prices, they found flights costing about £500 less per person and I'm all about saving money lol!

Do you known any other good websites to find cheaper rlights?

Any help you can provide would be a massive help

Cheers

Foxy

Apart from the usual places such as STA, Austravel, Travelbag try the comparison site . I've found good prices in the past using that website.
