Paris or Budahpest?

I have ten days and am torn between a day or two in Paris then heading north to Belgium or....Budahpest
been studying French so the first option makes sense but is Paris worth the trouble?

Hi Browncoat,

I wouldn't put you off Budapest at all. It is definitely cheap there (about £1.20 for a pint ), the local cuisine was delicious and to my eye it was a very clean city with many buildings of interest as well as some zany museums if that's your thing. The River Danube is immense and a cruise down it is a must.
The locals are very friendly even if with the older natives there is somewhat of a language barrier.

It was a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed it there =)

Both are good places. There is no comparison between them. There is a less distance between then and you can find flights at a very cheap cost for traveling from Paris to Budahpest. So do not waste your time to choose the best. Let enjoy the both places.

Go to Paris first ant leave Budapest for some other trip like Vienna + Prague + Budapest

As a Budapestian myself I strongly advise you to visit the city during summer it is like a big festival, people on the streets,on rooftop terraces hanging ou by the Danube, street food is booming, cultural, culinary and music festivals are numerous.

What to do? I have ten days and keep seeing great things about Budahpest, the Hungarian girl I dated raved about it....She introduced me to all kinds of Hungarian music and food ( pats fat belly)

I will be in one or the other at the end of September, Paris+ Liege+ Brussels or Hungary. How is Budahpest in the Winter? that would be the next time to travel. Would it be better to just wait until I have more time? I speak better French than Magyar ( but its coming along)

Thanks for the input,

No need to worry about the language barrier in Bp.so many young people are willng and eager to speak the lingo (eng)
Winter is average, nothing special really and sometimes temp is very low.
Best time to visit is spring-summer-early autumn.if you need to get away from the city though, there is Lake Balaton about 1,5-2 hrs from Budap.
I think the biggest difference btw Belgium and Hungary is the attitude of the people.we are very open and inquisive, needing very little encouragement to talk to strangers, very open minded and a bit on the disorganised side .

Let me know if you need more specifics.
Cheers

Oh,and you can get Palinka basically any time anywhere, but that is absolutely true that there are a couple of festivals based on that theme
