Cigarette Lighters - Australian Vehicles

I am just wondering if Australian Cars have Cigarette Lighters?

Sure do

Some of the newer aussie cars might have the 12V port but not come with the actual lighter. Mine has 2 ports but no lighter, my mums has 3 ports and no lighter, but ones in the boot so I don't see why they would put a lighter there

Perfect thanks for letting me know!!

How about auxiliary for music?

How about auxiliary for music?

That will totally depend on the car and on the stereo that is installed in the car.

oh ok same as canada then.
Thanks!

One more question! What big box stores other than Target and Ikea so you have there?

What do you mean by "big box stores" ? Is that a term for the large chain stores? If so, then there are lots. If you're worried about not being able to buy certain things, then I don't think you need to be too concerned. Life here is really much like Canada, although less cold in winter and featuring more kangaroos

Yes meaning large chain stores like Wal-Mart.

I have found there are alot of similarities with Australia and Canada, which should make things easier!

Do you have any advice about buying a used car? I fly into Sydney and plan on travelling to Brisbane area with it right when I land. Not sure whether to rent a car to use for my first couple weeks and then buy one in Queesland, or buy one in Sydney.

Yeah, plenty of those large stores. These are about the last thing I'd want when visiting another country mind you - they're just so generic, you might as well not be in a different country at all!

As for cars, you will need to allow a little time for the purchasing process. You have a few options -

1. Buy directly from someone else who's selling. This will be the cheapest, but the disadvantage is that you need to know what you're looking for. And you'll need to sell it again yourself at the end of the trip.
2. You can buy from a dealer. A bit pricier, but also these often come with short warranties (3-6 months).
3. You can buy from one of the travel car dealers, ie .

Some useful tips on this whole process in as well.

Whether you choose to rent a car for the first bit of your trip depends on how much time you have in Sydney I suppose. It's clearly going to be more expensive because you intend to buy your own car anyway. But maybe for convenience it's worth it. If you only have a day in Sydney, it's probably too much hassle to spend that day buying a car!

If you do choose to rent a car, check your travel insurance first to ensure it covers car rental excess fees. If it does, then you can safely avoid paying for the insurance that the car rental company will try and sell you. That's usually a total ripoff in terms of value compared to having your travel insurance cover it.
