It depends really. Do you have a job lined up already or what area would you be looking for work in? If you are not looking for a big city, hmmm... Galway is probably bigger than what you are looking for but is a really nice place to live and work. Also Sligo, Kilkenny and personally I like Carlow. I have friends there and they love it. Quite a lot going on culturally, nice restaurants and cafes but yet has a small town feel. Cost of living is obviously a bit less away from Dublin but not a big issue apart from accommodation. If you want a small town feel near Dublin, there are a few towns I could recommend. Let me know if you need any more help

Thanks for the reply! I do not have a job lined up yet. I was just going to see where would be a bit easier to find something. I work mostly in Administration and am also a hairdresser (something I would fall back on if I had to but not a big wish to do full time as it's hard to make money when you do not have clientele base.) I was looking at Galway and Waterford since they're a bit bigger than where I am from but not overly huge! I did want to stay more in the southern area of the country, preferably on the or near coast. I will do more research on the other cities you've mentioned for sure! Obviously I will do a bit of travelling around before but just wanted to get someone else's opinion in case I am unable to see everything first.
I'm talking here to my partner, who's from near Waterford. It's a great place but a bit of an unemployment blackspot at the moment, according to him. I'd advise you to have a job lined up first of all, and if you don't like it, it's easier in Ireland to get a job if you already have one. On all the information I have from you, I'd advise Galway. It has lots of employment, is essentially similar to a small town in that it's easy to get to know people and they are all very friendly. The city centre is cute and compact. It's also near the coast and handy for trips to Connemara, Limerick, Kerry and of course, my own Mayo. It has a great arts, musical, and theatrical scene as well as being a student town. For your needs, I'd say it's a no brainer

Out of everything, I'm unsure if I am able to get a job before I leave as the program that I am applying for the visa through, this is one of the things they offer to you is job postings, help in writing resumes/CVs, and what not. Is there any specific sites for job postings that you would recommend I look into? I have looked around on Monster.ie as well as gumtree.ie, but haven't found much. Is there any sort of temp agencies or local job posting sites I can check out?

oooh!! Yeah haven't been there yet but it's definately somewhere I would like to go!! This is my first time over this way to Europe so I'm hoping to see as much as I can! If you ever venture to Canada I can give you some good tips tho!
