I don't really know what an average budget would be by campervan. For general backpacker lifestyle (hostel, supermarket food, public transport), I generally recommend AUD $75-80/day as a minimum budget; more if you want to do lots of activities. Presumably the campervan should be at least a bit less than that, since the cost of campgrounds + gas should be less than the cost of a hostel + public transport, but that can of course vary tremendously based on how many driving days you have.
