Australia and New Zealand

So I just decided I want to go travelling around Australia and New Zealand starting in February! I'll be going solo and the thought terrifies me so would love to meet a travel buddy to join me! I'm 25 years old and from London !

Hi jos1990,

If you haven't already, I definitely recommend checking out the guides to and the . Remember you should only get your visas directly from the relevant government sites, they're usually approved with a pretty quick turn-around and any other company has to go through them anyway.

FYI New Zealand automatically gives British passport holders a two year WHV on application whereas Australia only gives one with the possibility to extend.

Check out some of the previous hostel/route discussions and potential buddies in the .

As a bonus tip: always take shower thongs (you might call them 'flip flops')

Hey!

I have my working visa which i got through the Oz Government website and found really easy to use and quick. I am leaving in June to do Oz first and then NZ.

thanks for the advice. how did u book your flights via which company and plan out how you got to different cities ?

I want to go Darwin, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Ayres Rock, Alice springs, Sydney, Brisband, Rockhampton , Cairns and see the Great Barrier Reef.

Brisbane**

Im already in Australia and i havent booked to go anywhere yet but when i have looked at flights from sydney to melbourne i was looking on jet star. It was pretty decent prices but be aware that if youre carrying anything more than hold all it will get dearer. Im working at the moment but hopefully going to leave alot of my stuff and then come back to it before i go home. Also i've stayed in two hostels in Sydney i heard great things about wake up but in my opinion it isn't the best i stayed in Bounce that was much cleaner and had a better atmosphere as well. Pretty sure it was cheaper too so thats a heads up for when youre there. Enjoy Australia!

Hey im also heading to sydney in feb on my own. Terrified and looking for some people in the same boat. Im Philomen 24 from belfast. Advice please ??

Don't be scared! I can understand why you are but im 23 and moved here in August by myself and im doing ok Honestly you meet people in hostels and on your travels anyway just be open to introducing yourself to people.
Ive said this before and i hate to be a bad critic but wake up isnt the best in my opinion ive stayed in bounce before and that was cool.
In regards to advice on Sydney just walk round in your first few days there its pretty easy to get yourself round and usually i dont even use the trams i just walk from one place to the next. (If you do want to get the tram you will need to get an opal card makes life easier)
Everyone ive met has managed to get work in Australia so you dont have to worry about that. It might be worth while going on find a room if youre looking to rent somewhere more permanent. I know someone who found their flat that way and it seems to be going ok.
If you need any advice on anything more specific then let me know and ill try help if i can
Also watch what you pack i mean im a girl but i packed so much stuff that i havent even looked at since moving here and that was me narrowing down haha try and stay calm before you come and get yourself organised.
Have a good one.
