Peru-Ecuador-Colombia

Hi! My boyfriend and I are planning to travel Peru-Ecuador-Colombia in Jan and Feb and would appreciate some advice on what cities to visit and the best travel routes between countries. We are at the beginning stage of planning and need suggestions about moving north from Lima. Some "not to miss" sights in Peru? Best ways to cross the border into Ecuador? What to see in Ecuador? Getting to Colombia? What to see in Colombia? We are traveling with a tight budget and don't mind long bus rides. We like sightseeing but want to spend some time at the beach. Thanks for the help!

Which guide book(s) are you using?

Cheers,
Terry

Hi Terry.
We haven't looked at any guide books yet. Being in Argentina, books in english are limited. Is there one you suggest? We also really want to hear about travellers personal experiences.

Here's some ideas to get started: , ,

Oh and check out the , there's a handy (but sneaky) post on travel hacking Machu Picchu

For Peru - Colca Canyon (Cabanaconde), Arequipa, Cusco and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, a flight over the Nazca Lines, Lima. After that we flew into Quito because time was a little short and then flew out to the Galapagos Islands. The persistent rain (four days, virtually non-stop) spoilt Quito a little bit but the Galapagos Islands were absolutely awesome. You can do them on the cheap - we managed to get cheap flights with AeroGal as part of a LAN airways deal and then we used the inter-island ferries to see the three main islands. The National Park fee was a bit on the steep side though.

Whatever you do, enjoy the trip.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

the ruins of ChanChan in Peru are quite spectacular
