Tourists do show up in Thailand every month of the year. There are fewer tourists than December but probably at least around a million should arrive that month.
TravBuddy also has a category for meeting up with other visitors.
If you do ask for meet ups be prepared for some guys who will think you looking for a date. Be careful if you set up a meet and greet.

If you're looking to meet other backpackers then the best thing to do is stay in hostels. Also, doing tours and day trips can sometimes be a cool way to meet other travellers. Some cool hostels for meeting other people are Pak Up Hostel in Krabi, and pretty much every hostel on Koh Phi Phi has a sociable vibe to it.

Im looking to do the very same thing although I would like to be staying in thailand for 2 months!
Im considering doing a TEFL course through i-to-i but haven't seen any non-biased reviews as of yet!
One thing I would love to do is stay at the elephant sanctuary in Chang Mai- I did a day visit once and it was an amazing experience!

Im the exact same as you. Looking to go to Thailand in May and just stay for as long as I can. Was thinking of staying in Bangkok first in a hostel, hopefully meeting people. Then moving down to Koh-Phangan, Phucket or Koh Phi Phi.
Not booked anything yet though.
