Bangkok will be cheaper than Phuket if money is a concern. (Cheap transportation in Bangkok.)
In the Patong area (Phuket) you will find things to do in the evening even if it is just nightlife. You will meet tourists in pubs and beer bars, on tours, in your hotel and sometimes walking around. You can sign on to tours after you are in Bangkok or Phuket in person. Choose one day and leave following morning. Tours may have other single tourists. Anyway you can have a nice time all by yourself.

Chiang Mai might be a good replacement for some of your beach area time.
