I live in Mexico City, I Have`t experience with hostels but I recommend stay near dowtown. Here the "Centro Historico" is the main site for colonial buildings. One "must be" place when visiting Mexico City. Another site is "Colonia Condesa" or "Colonia Roma" this places are near from "Centro Historico" and the "metro" is cheap and easy for transport (Metro = Subway). In december the weather is cold in the night, Maybe in day too (never snow!!! but 1 or 2 degrees in the morning is common, in day 12 to 18 degrees is normal). Mexico is a big city with many places for visit. If need more information, leave me a message here.
