Tangier to Marrakech - tips on travel

Hey. I'm going to Morocco next month with my boyfriend and I'm after a few tips :-) We're landing in Tangier pretty late and have asked for the hotel we are staying at in chefchaouen to pick us up. However I was wondering if there were cheaper alternatives? I don't think there's any buses that run at night, but does anyone know how much a taxi would cost? We're then gonna stay there for a few days, head to fez for a few more, then hire a car and do some trekking in the dunes and mountains, ending in Marrakech. We want to hire a car cos we both love the idea of a ROADTRIP but if anyone thinks it's pointless and has any other ideas, please pass them on. Any further tips appreciated. Thanks :o)

The CTM busses to Chefchaouen/Fez run a few times a day, the latest around 8pm, so you'll probably miss it. You could get a Grand Taxi (don't expect too much: old 5 person Mercedes, in which they put 6 people (excl driver ...) ) that'll cost something like 50-100 Dh, don't know excactly. That price would be if more people share the taxi, otherwise the price is higher.
There may be some night busses, but these are often not the most comfortable ones, as i've heard.

Chefchaouen is a really great place, especially great to start in I guess . It's quite laid back, and the town is nice and small to start with . Also great hiking possibilities in the Rif mountains. The Kashba in Chef is also worth visiting.
Fez is quite hectic, especially compared to Chef, but it's nevertheless a nice city. Don't let the hassle take over . And if you planned to see a tannery in Fez... there's not one 'THE' tannery, but there are lots and lots of them... try to pick the one that looks least shabby :P

If money is not too much of an issue, hiring a car is OK, but if you're more into budget travelling, trains and busses are also quite ok, and rather nice to travel with.

hello

welcome to Morocco and have an enjoyable trip over here; when you will reach the Airport in Tangier you will find prices writing down in kinda wallpaper, no idea about it should be around 120 for whole Grand Taxi.

from Tangier to Chefchaouen you will have to take a bus (CTM and Supratours are comfortable ones but if you wanna experience a bit of culture then try Local ones a bit cheaper but not comfortable for westerns).

Chefchaouen is a nice place to relax and hike as well, but don't get surprised if people try to offer you the Hash in the street as it is as normal as being close to the Hash region. and don;t miss visiting Akshour waterfall...another heaven.

if you have a bit of money then renting a car will be just amazing as you will win time and you will be able to head wherever you wish and anytime you wish and stop anywhere to take pictures too.

have an enjoyable trip and if you need any help about planning your trip or tips then feel free to email me.

greetings from the land of peace
Rachid
peace & hugs
