I just got a report of someone else with the same issue; I suspect Sam/Peter/Dmitry uploaded some changes which broke things; they should fix this as soon as they see this thread, probably in a few hours at most.
Having the same problem and notified Peter just now. Hope things can be fixed soon. I'm glad to find it's not just me or my computer.

Bulk uploader is still fully operational, so you can use it until we reload image processing library used by single file uploader.
Ok, should be sorted now. The software that handles photo processing had crashed somehow. Added some rules to hopefully recover better if this happens again in the future.
