Hello all,
I'll be starting my RTW trip in N. America and was hoping to catch a game of some sort, probably ice hockey, basketball or American football. Baseball doesn't really interest me, I'd go to a football (soccer) match if there's nothing else but I was hoping for a new experience. I'm going to NYC, Toronto and San Diego, although I'll only be in NYC for a couple of days so probably wont be able to squeeze it in there.
I arrive in Toronto at about 9am on Monday 23rd May, and fly to San Diego on Friday 27th. I leave San Diego on Tuesday 31st.

Hi Dan,

You'll be around in baseball season, so I'd catch a game of that if your into it. Personally I would go see the Toronto Blue Jays play
They are playing the White Sox at the Rogers Centre on May 26th.
Here's a link for tickets:

Have fun at your first North American sporting event!

Baseball games are sometimes fun... tailgating and just drinking... other than that the game is slow, but the tickets are super cheap! about $20, I recommend just getting the cheapest tickets and you can walk around and walk and sit in the expensive seats : )
If you enjoy surfing or drinking ... visit Pacific Beach in San Diego! They have the Wave House, its a fake surf wave, and theres an outdoor bar to chill and watch the surfers... Its really awesome

Have fun!!

Almost forgot I'd posted this, thanks for the replies. Baseball was sort of a last resort, I was hoping for something a little more exciting! I'll wait 'til I get there, might be a laugh if I found a few people to go with.
I have heard about that surfing in SD, definately going to check it out. Never tried it before so I figure it'd be a good starting point.

Dan.

One other option might be to cross the border to Tijuana and go see their jai alai matches.

Very fast paced game and you can bet on it as well.

Here's a short video showing some experts playing the game

The jai alai "fronton" center in Tijuana is on Revolution Avenue (Avenida de Revolucion) in the main tourist section of town.

Sorry, Calcruzer but I would disagree... its way dangerous in Mexico right now. There are tons of drug problems at the moment... I just advise to stay clear
x

Well, it is true that Mexico is having a drug war. But is also just as clear that the acts of violence are fairly random--and almost none of them are directed at tourists. Also, the largest problems by far are in the states of Chihuahua and Sinaloa--not in Tijuana, not in Puerto Vallarta, and not in Cabo San Lucas.

There have been problems in Cancun and in Acapulco--but in most cases these were directed against the police (or drug gangs themselves) in these cities, not against tourists. Yes, there have been close to 15,000 drug killings in Mexico last year--but then we get that many murders in the US in total also.
