Plans plans plans I have none : (

Hi Guys,

i'm 27 and have just travelled the east coast starting from melbourne and ending in cairns. i was with a friend i met in new zealand for the most part but would have been comfortable on my own as its easy to meet people in hostels.

it's worth booking on to a trip when u arrive for a few days or so as u will meet people on it and maybe travel onwards with them. personally i disagree with the above suggestion of spending more time between townsville and cairns as these are generally the smaller towns with less people and things to do (from my personal experience) From Sydney to Brisbane there's loads more backpackers travelling and the places I visited were much more fun. Must do's are melbourne, sydney, fraser island, whitsundays, cairns (if the weather is good enough to go to the reef).

I travelled on greyhound so you tend to bump into the same people along the coast - other people we met were doing oz experience but they were limited to only getting 1 bus a day that travels during the day, whereas greyhound have multiple buses each day and you can travel through the night.

I think the key is to book onto a few trips every now and then and you are guaranteed to meet people

Lauren

Thank for your replies.
Lauren could you suggest a good hostel to stay in first of all if I go to Melbourne first and and suggestion for a good first trip to book to meet people.

I'm leaving the UK 2 weeks on Saturday to go to Thailand then Oz starting in Sydney. I have booked myself with Ozintro for 3 days when i arrive, however i regret this a little now... I've paid my money though so hopefully everything will work out okay.

I've not decided what i'm doing after Sydney yet, i keep changing my mind so i'm just going to decide when i get out there. I was going to travel with Ozexperince but after looking into this a little i think i'm going to go with Greyhoud as they seems cheaper and more flexible

28 is not old.

In fact I think it's probably an ideal age to go travelling, and I think you'll find that many travellers of that age will be there when you arrive.

i stayed at habitat hq in melbourne - probably one of the best hostels i stayed in whilst in oz so would definitely recommend it. they have something going on every day/night. i did the free walking tour that they organised and i met people on that. i also did a 2 day great ocean road trip organised through the hostel. they have a travel desk there who can advise you on all the trips

if you're heading to sydney i'd recommend staying at bounce hostel - very similar to habitat hq.

i think travelling at a more mature age is much better. Im only 24 but have met a lot more people older than me rather than younger. for the time of year you are travelling it probably would be better to start in cairns as places like melbourne up to sydney will be cooling down a bit.

hey,
In my view you should start your journey from CAIRNS and end up in MELBOURNE.
As per the weather conditions.
