Hello! I am new to this forum so hopefully this is in the right spot!
How about Papua New Guinea? It's not far from Australia, but it's very different. Do you like nature?
Or China. Flights from Sydney to Hong Kong or Shanghai are pretty reasonable. And travel within China is pretty cheap.
