Hey there! I am currently in Denver, CO and I want I am planning to travel all over USA starting this summer/fall (depending on money/timing/etc).
I am a 23 year old female but I am smart and will take much precaution. I would love advice for traveling safely, what to bring/not to bring, places to see, how to plan a route, estimated amount of money to have, safety, etc. ANYTHING. Thanks!!!
So your plan is to visit all 50 states in one trip? That's kewl. My goal is to get to them all but it's taken me 52 years and I'm only up to 42. There are a lot of well traveled, good folks here so I'm sure you will get a lot of good advice. My first question is the mode of transportation you will be using. A van maybe?
I have a ford explorer, which will be perfect I think. I'm going to get it checked up at a car place of course to see if it's in good enough condition to do that much driving. It's a '98 so I'm not sure if I'm going to have to trade it in and save money to get a newer/better one, what do you think??
I'm thinking of different options as of now, traveling the western states (west of Colorado) and then returning home for a while. Then going East and visiting family a few days at a time for rest. The eastern states are going to take the longest, but I think also be the most exciting!

That was my first thought as well. I own a Ranger 4 X 4 Pickup, which is essentially an Explorer without the back furnished, and it seems like the gas is evaporating as I watch the gauge go down. I get 17 MPG even with highway moderate (60 MPH) driving. A mini van by comparison, gets 25+ MPG and will haul more. The only way I see the Explorer as an advantage is if you are going into snow.
If you can swing it I'd dump the Explorer and shoot for a van.
