Hostels in Sydney

Hi,
I'm going to Oz in 2 weeks and I'm going to be staying in Sydney a week longer than expected and was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at either of these hostels: 790 on George Backpackers, or Backpackers Headquarters. They seem to be some of the cheapest on hostelbookers at about £15 a night. Not sure where to stay so if someone could help me out that'd be great!

I don't want to be too negative about hostels I haven't been in myself, but usually there is a pretty good reason for places to be a lot cheaper than others... that doesn't mean it's terrible, but especially in a place like Sydney you tend to get what you pay for. Location wise, the 790 George Street one is great for sure though! I've walked by it several times in the past.

Is this your first stay in Australia/hostels there? If so, I would go for something more cushy for at least the first couple of days. It's not exactly high season now, so you could book something like the YHA/Wake Up for a few days, then check out the cheaper options and see if it's your style.

i booked a night in 790 on george and it was a bit gross, thankfully i ended up staying out that night instead! wouldnt recommend it - it wasn't much cheaper than bounce hostel which is just round the corner and SO much nicer. definitely stay there, its the best hostel i stayed at in oz

Thanks for the advice. I've been to Sydney before but didn't stay in hostels. I've booked Sydney Central YHA for my first 3 nights, just can't really afford it for the whole time I'm there.

I'll look into that Bounce place

or look into base sydney. i stayed there for a week, not badly priced for the bigger dorms 8-10 people if you dont mind that. cheaper hostels in sydney are cheaper for a reason. we had good fun at base, they have some free fun stuff to offer too.

Are you find laptop friendly cafes in Sydney?

what type of place are you looking for? I highly recommend the Palms for a fun time, it's in King's Cross or potts point I think, it's small, cheap, and dirty but it attracts great people. It's not really a hostel but more of a house with a bunch of beds thrown in there and a lot of long term people. Also it's a younger crowd. if that's what you're looking for I can't recommend it enough.

If you're looking for the opposite, catch the train up to the blue mts and stay in the YHA for a week. the train is cheap and only takes 2 hours.
