Songkran festival - Thailand

anyone got any suggestions of the best place to be for songkran festival this year? i will probably be in chiang mai if anyone knows a good hostel to stay please let me know!

Chiang Mai is okay if you are a female or a couple. A single guy might like Pattaya better. Pattaya is easy to get to, hotels are cheaper. Although Songkran seems to go on forever there!

If you are really young, maybe still in or close to your teens, Khao San Road seems to be okay for that age group.

You must understand that you will be soaked! At times water will be thrown or squirted at you from all sides. The "wetness" does slow down until later at night and for a short while you may escape early in the morning. No water throwing in hotels or stores. Playing the "artful dodger" you can sometimes avoid some the worse wet assaults. Even buckets of water may come from the floors above the street level.

Keep your mouth shut! NOT all of the water may be sanitary! Avoid driving a motorcycle during this holiday. More accidents during this time because of buckets or hoses pouring water on drivers passing by!

Wrap your wallet in a plastic bag. Any electronics without plastic protection could be destroyed. Wear cheap clothing like a t-shirt and shorts, something that won't be damaged too much by water. My favorite targets were uptight, rich looking, snotty female tourists who thought the rules of the holiday did not apply to someone in their status. But I am always a gentle squirter believing in stealth and accuracy not so much as drowning someone!

Have fun.

For hotel recommendations you ought to mention a price range. I don't choose hostels because I don't want to share a toilet or shower with lots of other people. In Thailand many guest houses and hotels are almost the same price as hostels.

Here is a possibility that you can consider, Trigong Residence.

During your time in Bangkok you can even call some places in your price range to reserve a room for youself.

Dates:

Good luck.
