One reason why immigrants go to Britain is that they stand a fairly good chance of getting work there. As British ex-pats find when they move abroad, to places like France is that it is locals first and everyone else last. If you speak perfect French, you MIGHT get a job but it will be minimum wage and not that good. I would check on getting a job first rather than turning up and spending all summer looking for a job that is not there. Times are still tough all around Europe from the recent recession which makes it worse.
Accommodation is not cheap in the Paris area, with many commuting in from far afield. I would think you'd need at least 40-50 euros a day budget. If you want to work in France, you could try fruit picking or similar down south where everything is so much cheaper.

As UK citizen, you can up and move to France without visa or work permit issues, so that's a plus for you. Now, if you speaks French, then that'll be an additional plus, but if you don't, your summer job prospect may be confined to some Irish/English pubs and that's about it.
Accommodation is going to be a problem regardless of whom. They're very expensive in Paris, where small 15m2 apartment could cost some €500 or so, usually more, unless you live in the suburbs. And that's the rate for long term rental. For short term rental, expect to pay more unless you can find student sublet where the students plan to travel during the summer holiday. It'll be very tricky to find one though. Moreover, you're likely to be asked for 2 months rent as deposit, plus 1st month rent in advance. In effect, 3 months rent in one go. (Yikes, I know)
Maybe have a look at FUSAC. It's an American expat magazine, and you can try to scan for jobs and apartment there?
