Dealing with money in Asia

My daughter will be going to Thailand next summer and i was wondering how she will get access to funds while she is there,If she buys travelers checks where would she cash them if she isnt in the major urban centers, also do they deal in American dollars or their own currency?

All the major towns have official places where you can exchange Travellers Checks and just about everywhere (other than the most remote villages) have banks and ATMs where you can withdraw money with your ATM card provided it has that Cirrus thing on it. One thing to note with doing this is your own banks foreign transaction fees. As the daily cost of living is so low you find yourself only wanting to withdraw about 20 or 30 bucks at a time. Then you come home and find you've been slugged 5 bucks every time you made a withdrawal.

If she takes US dollars then she'll need to goto a money exchange. I've been to Thailand 4 times (all over the place) and have NEVER dealt or been asked to deal in a foreign currency; just the local Thai Baht. The only places it might be handy to have some US currency is if she's looking at doing some short border crossings.

Cheers.
