I am a 30something thinking about travelling to Argentina in November with my girlfriend. Generally, enjoy a good mix of culture, sightseeing, trips and nightlife. I would welcome advice on an itinerary and the "how to" get from A to B.
I have previously been to Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls but haven't visited beyond there.
Broadly thinking of an itinerary that encompasses the following:
Buenos Aires
Salta
Mendoza
Neuquen
Bariloche
Fitzroy / El Chalten
Peninsula Valdes
Pinamar
Buenos Aires
When you say 2.5 weeks+ what does the + equal?
Because like you say the country is immense.
It took me 3 days to get from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia.
One bonus you could have is instead of staying in a hostel for a night you could spent it travelling to your next destination.
One problem could be as you are on such a tight deadline if 1 or more things go wrong it could mess up the rest of the trip. For instance you miss a bus or hostels are full etc.
I would seriously think about what you really want to see and do and keep locations to a minimum. I spent 3 months in Argentina and still didnt see everywhere. Although i did fall in love with Buenos Aires and Mendoza and probably spent a month between both.
Maybe even decide whether its full south you want to spend all your time or Bariloche,Mendoza,Salta area.
Whats in Neuquen and Pinamar you want to see?
Way too much for 2.5 weeks unless you are flying a lot and even then it's overreaching.
I spent two months in Argentina and didn't even see everything you are tying to see in 2-3 weeks!
with 20 days I'd probably either focus on the south or the north for the majority of the time and throw a flight or two into the budget if you really want to see more.
Otherwise be prepared to spend huge amounts of time on the bus - lots of 18+ hour drives connecting places on your itinerary - and don't forget the trip back.
