I think this is something like massenger online chat,if it is so please help me .I am a senior citizen wanting very much to meet up with anyone from Laos as I wanted to make a trip there somewhere in June.I just return from Ho Chi Mingh City and with high hope of making friends there but end up with non.So before I go I would like to know someone from there first so I wont make the same mistake of not getting to know anyone like before.But then again ,if I am not allowed to give out my email address how that someone can write to me or help me??.Philistkong
This is not quite chat, but rather what is called a "forum" (also known as a "message board"). What you write here gets publicly posted, and over the next hours and days people from all over the world will read it, sometimes responding by writing replies. (So the time-lag and ability from people in all timezones to participate is what differentiates it from chat.) These replies are also publicly visible, and so not just you, the original poster, can benefit from what help is given, but also people with similar questions who find the thread at a later date.
If you are "subscribed" to the thread (which you should be by default), you will get an email whenever someone replies. And then you can reply again to those replies, starting a slow-moving conversation.
We don't allow email addresses to be posted publicly to protect people from email harvesters using them for spam, as well as from a privacy point of view. We however have a "private message" system (see the link on this site way at the top of the page, the white letters in the blue bar, saying something like "no new messages"), where you can send and be sent messages which can only be read by the sender and the recipient. That's how people can tell you their email address, and you can set up a conversation over email.
