just a quick question for the british folk or anyone who'll know... im travelling to australia for five weeks and hopefully flying into cairns and flying home from either sydney or melbourne, which ever is cheaper. ill also fly from just about anywhere in the UK but i imagine london airports are cheapest.
how much should i expect to pay and anyone got any cheap websites to compare on. thanks travellers, keep safe x

Think it totally depends on when and where from really... i'm flying to Cairns 26th September from Manchester and that cost £712 one way - been reading on here people getting them alot cheaper.

Flights are cheaper if you don't mind spending some hours in an airport on the way there and back (as in not direct) and if you pick awkward times. Also if you don't book weekends or school holidays. Changing your flight by as little as one day can sometimes knock a good bit off of the price.
However you need to book them as early as possible as cheap flights quickly sell leaving late bookers with the more expensive ones.
Consider dropping into Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo or somewhere on the way out or back.
As to cheap websites, lots of them. Be aware that some will not handle certain airlines so shop around. I find the travel section in The Mail on Sunday pretty good.
It has been 4 years since I have been to Oz. Back then we had a return flight with Cathay (via Hong Kong) to Oz for around 1000-1100 euro, but since then I have seen occasional deals with Singapore or Malaysia Airlines, for under 800 euro (about 700 GBP).
Still, in your case, I would try to see if you can hop on an Air Asia flight from London to Kuala Lumpur and return KL-Oz with Air Asia as well. Think you have to book flights separately and luggage might not be transported automatically as it is a budget airline.
I think if you book those connections early, you might find it around 600-700 GBP as well.

Hey i got a return from Glasgow to Perth from sta travel for £930 connecting flight in Dubai! that was just a few weeks ago although my flight is for the end of June! fares will go up depending the time of year u go!

I paid around £650 for my flights. I'm doing a stopover in Singapore which seems to be quite common, along with Thailand, Kuala Lumpar, Hong Kong, then I'm flying into Cairns September 27th. Think it depends on who you go with and how early you book them.

Hot deals showed cheap flights with Malaysian airlines about month ago now which was great if you got there in time (I unfortunately didn't! ) so just keep your eye on it. Sometimes flying from London is cheaper but a lot of airlines do transfers down to London anyway as part of the cost
