Hey
Why can't you simply bring what you wear at home?
Cheers,
Terry
Ordinary wear is OK. Otherwise you can buy what you need if you are not outsize.
As to weather, parts of the South Island can get very cold in winter. The North Island isn't so bad but does have some cold weather. And wet weather, even in mid-summer.
On a night out? Are you taking lots of money or have you a skill that will get you a good job?
Have you anything lined up for work? Some end up going to NZ or Australia and find they cannot get a job and come home after a few months when the money runs out.
Hi T
I am going to bring what I wear but its what should i take and leave behind! haha
Hi cyberia
I have a skill and have sthing lined up! I want to bring sthing nice for when i go out so a dress r 2!!For me its just figuring out a tight packing list!!
Have u been to NZ???
Hello!
I went Sept 2009 for 6mnths (I'm early 20's) and I too had this backpack dilema... The MUST-TAKE is a couple of pairs of black leggings. Seriously because they are so light and you can wear them year round I went through pairs of them!! Clothes wise, take light layers and dont restrict yourself dress-wise. I took clothes that were old as thought I could leave them but looking back there were a couple of little dresses that can be dressed up and down that I should have taken too!! I never wore (nor owned) heels for the duration of my stay. In fact in NZ during the summer up in Mount Maunganui I rarely wore shoes at all!! I travelled the South Island for 6wks and it is cold but we camper vanned it so layers were key (as drying is a nightmare and cardies/ leggings are so much easier than hoodies etc!!).
Hope this helps, just take what you like, you can always buy stuff there. Take shampoo and conditioner and your fav make-up though as that is so expensive over there!!!
Hey Ellaluggage
thanks for your info yeah black leggings are a must when i was in SEAsia last yr they were great! I will take a few dresses as u say dress them up or down! For me I plan to work in Auckland for 6 mths so that is why i was thinking i need proper clothes haha otherwise i wudnt be too bothered!! think ill leave the heels and just take a smart pair of pumps just in casey!!
When u say expensive for shampoo etc what r we talking???
Hi Annie,
Ah, certainly take some nice clothes for living in Auckland, it will be useful - that is one of very few places in NZ where ppl actually care about fashion, haha.
You will find a lot of shops, there, too, so I guess just take your favourite pieces and you can buy the rest when you are there according to the current need.
Good luck.
take your medicines and a list having information on the things you might be allergic.
Most people here wear denim jeans, so a few pairs of those and ul be fine. Skinny jeans are popular at the moment. And a black dress for the nightlife.
I spend a year in New Zealand myself. I have a webpage that has everything i brought with me i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post it here but ill give it a try. I hope it helps and have a great time in NZ (spend most of your time in the south island).
