Travelling during Ramazan

Hello all,

Hello all,

I am planning to travel to Iran and Eastern Turkey in August, which i just found out is also the month of Ramazan. Is this advisable for non-Muslim travellers?

Also, in a more practical sense, i am a bit worried about getting transport, as i heard that the buses don't really run during the fasting month, and everything comes to a stop until the evening.

Any advise is very appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Most of the things you mentioned are full of prejudice ( not by you the ones who told you).

You can do whatever you like during Ramazan just as you do in a christian country.

For the buses if you book in advance it will be easier for you.

August will be very dry and hot in eastern turkey that the real issue that you should worry about.

You should have no trouble in Ramadan (D) as most work as normal. You might notice that some people are slightly tetchy, not having eaten all day, but every night is a celebration as they make up for it.

Budai - i can't wait to see more advice being given to somebody from Malaysia regarding Ramad/zan....

here is mine: i think shopping possibilities will be limited during daytime.... :P

hahaha thanks people. Having been there and done that, i can say... Turkey - no problems at all, though Iran is slighty more difficult

In eastern Turkey it was really more an issue of me being embarassed at eating during the daytime hours, so i usually just snuck into the back of restaurants (about half of which will still be open), and ate indoors. Some locals will be eating as well. Transport wasnt an issue at all.

Iran is a different story though. Even on Fridays, i found it a little difficult - shopping possibilities are indeed quite limited . Most bazaars and food shops close completely...
