Buying a car in WA

Hi all, im looking to buy a car here in WA but the fella brought it over from queensland so its got QLD plates and no immobiliser. Just wondering if thats goin to be an issue here because i think its compulsory to have an immobiliser fitted in cars here in WA. Would it cost much to change the plates or should i reconsider buyin this one off him?

I'm doing research on the different licensing laws in Australia. So thought I'd do a few quick searches on your problem.

First off, yes you are right, it is compulsory and it's your responsibility that the immobilizer is fitted. from what I can see, you have 14 days to apply for your transfer of title for the vehicle and within those 14 days you need to get the immobilizer fitted so you can mark on the transfer of vehicle form that it is fitted. I got the info from here.

The good news is it looks like you could get one fitted for as little as $89. I found this info

Buying a car with out of state registration is always a pain. There may be other laws that need to be addressed when transferring title in a different state, so start doing lots of research and don't rely on what the seller says about it being "so easy"

thanks for that. well i went and bought it anyway really good car and i love it already. it was serviced 2 months ago so il put it thru pits before rego runs out in nov should be okay i think. thanks again
