Thailand will let you in w/o an onward ticket. My friend Chris and I have flown into BKK at least 30 times and they have never asked to see an onward ticket. Your airline is another story. If your airline says they will deny your boarding w/o a 30 day tourist visa, then you will need to buy a tourist visa. Good luck.
