A pal and I have been saving a little bit of cash, every month for a while and we've now got four thousand pounds to spend. When we started, we jokingly called this 'new life' money and thought of doing something like cycling across America. Well now we want to spend it.
Our criteria/considerations: we want an outstanding adventure. Two weeks is the max time we could set aside, probably less is more realistic as we're now both married. Ours wives may or may not be invited. We'd like a once in a life time experience. A wow factor (not in terms of luxury, more in terms of adventure). We'd be up for a physical challenge. We're based in the UK.
All advice gladly received.

I would say - go to the Himalayas - Nepal, India or Pakistan.
You can go trekking or even take your bicycle (if you have the fitness/gear).
The whole trip would cost you app GBP1k (inc airplane ticket), plus some for vaccination.
Google images for words like Ladakh, Spiti Valley, Karakoram, Sikkim....
The first thing you need to do is to dip into your £4,000 stash and take out £6 to purchase a hacksaw and few extra blades to cut off the manacle and chains that you've allowed your wives to attached to you.
Then - and only then - can you be open to an, "outstanding adventure."

Interesting that you see the wives as the reason for the 'manacle and chains', Terry. It may be the case, but sometimes - the wives are innocent and actually say, "Go. Have a great time." It will be the husband who self-imposes the restrictions.
ski_caesear - when you say 'cycling', are you speaking about (pedal) bicycles or motorcycles? People in different countries use the term interchangeably for both modes of transportation. Knowing which one you are writing about will help members answer your question(s) more effectively.
Sorry for the slightly sarcastic reply above, Pete. I had just finished attending a smokin' jam session here in Havana and I was a little sloshed. I have a pet peeve regarding married couples who feel they can't do certain things just because they're married - I really, really don't get that.
In any case, wanting something absolutely outstanding with only 2 weeks at most (and likely even less) is setting some fairly strict parameters before you even start. Simply flying from the UK to somewhere interesting and then acclimatizing with jet lag, etc. will eat up a precious day or two of your tight schedule.
More info regarding your likes/dislikes would be helpful.

Why don't you try the Bora Bora? The place looks wonderful. I sure will want to visit the place if I have the funds for it.
I agree on Nepal, hiking the Himalayas will certainly be an adventure.
the 10 day Annapurna Trek is suppose to be exhilarating with some of the most epic views you'll encounter!
Nepal is also an amazing country to travel & very budget friendly!

How about travel to Asia? i travelled there with my friends last year ,started from the well know silk road by riding.It's excited and impressive.we all have a nice memories there .you know just like a huge DIY project ,something like that haha.. really very nice! maybe you can try. BTW we painted for local person to earn money supporting our trip
