I am looking at buying my RTW ticket this weekend! I really need to buy it its now or never. I am looking to set off on the 15th of Febuary for 6 months and landing in Asia first, then NZ, OZ finishing in SA. I really have no preferance to where i want to go and not really anything i want to see just go with the flow but my budgit is not the best. I feel quite confident on travelling to Asia, OZ and NZ but im a bit weiry of SA, i would like to go there but havnt got a route i would prefer and i am looking at turning up in Rio and fling from Santiago two months later with no route or plan, i that a stupid idea? and could it be costly?
A RTW ticket means you must keep going in on general direction and that you cannot cut back on yourself. But you can have overland parts. Side flights are booked separately.
The seasons Down Under are opposite to the UK so you will be heading there as it's getting cold. I would have gone mid-December.
Asia is a big place. Where do you want to go? What do you want to see and do? Travel is often cheap with budget airlines like AirAsia. Places like Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines are cheap. Places like Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan are expensive.
Travel is quite expensive as distances are great in the places you are visiting. Not really a lot in Brazil, or Chile. Probably Peru has got as much for the tourist as the rest of SA put together. The only real problem I found in SA is petty theft but that seems to be everywhere these days.
I generally book as I go but at times that can be expensive, as in buying flights in SA. Better to book early.
Pop into a W H Smith or whatever and check out some of the Lonely Planet guides to your destination. It might be worth buying one or more as they are packed with information, travel hints, cheap accommodation, etc.
Thanks mate. Ive thought alot this past week and have decided i want to visit SE Asia, nz and oz and i will not be visiting SA on this trip. Planning on staying in SE Asia for 3-4 months, 4 weeks in NZ and final 6 weeks in OZ. Im hoping that spending more time in SE Asia will allow me to have more to spend in OZ and NZ instead of adding SA and having to scrape by. Hopefully the tucket price will be reduced aswel. thanks!
