I don't know your nationality but are you allowed to stay in Australia for a year?
There are different Visas and requirements which you can apply for, check this out first, you may also need to prove you can support yourself for that period of time.
Things to think about as a starter
Funding and budget
Check out the best current account deals
Check out the best credit card deals
Passport
Insurance
Will you be renting a car.
Places of interest you wish to visit.
Things you would like to see and do
Get an idea of the cost of accommodation

Pick up a Lonely Planet guide to Australia. It has everything you need to know about the country.
If you are there for a year, it does not really matter where you fly in to. Opposite of the UK, December is mid summer for them and north is the hottest part of the country. Parts of the south can get coldi n their winter (June to August)
Distances are such there that people will often fly. Most of the things to see are around the coast. If you can drive, take your licence along (they drive on the left there too). Warning: It costs a lot of money if you don't take the car back to where you picked it up, so travel from A to B, then get a car there for a day or more before moving on.
The Daily Mail on Saturday and Sunday have good travel sections with flights in, but have you seen the Emirates flights advertised on TV? They aren't badly priced.
Do buy travel insurance. A year is not too expensive.
Tasmania is only a short hop from Melbourne if you feel like something different.
Im from england uk, i beleive i need a working holiday visa 417?
Is there any places you would reccommend a must go?
Thanks
heya kristie i'm doin the exact same thing i'm planning on goin on febuary 3rd 2012 have u got ur working visa yet? ive just applied for mine and i was wondering if anyone knew roughly how long does it take to recieve it after it's been approved?
Hiya Roxy are you thats good then we can help each other get organised along the way lol No i havent applied for mine yet because i thought once you recieve it, it had to be activated within one year?? not sure if that is deff right tho.
Did you apply for it online or go down to the office?
Have you any plans of where your going to head first?
Roxyftw, I applied for my WHV last Monday night - and ha it confirmed within about 10 hours!
Some do seem to take a day or so, but not heard of many folk waiting too long.
Im arriving in Oz on Nov 7th > The best place to view the Total eclipse happens to be in Cairns, Northern Queensland on November 14th < I would Recommend checkin it out.
Hey everyone, I'm going to Oz for a year on a working visa in march. I have my visa it took a couple of days but for most people its really quick. I'm planning on booking my flight with STA travel, they seem the best deal and they are really helpful. I'm going to melbourne and making my way up the east coast. Travelling alone pretty nervous but also really excited. Is anyone going around this time and wanting to meet up?
Angela
