hey all,
im heading to australia in july 2012 and just on the fence on whether i should bring my laptop or not!! what do we reckon, to bring or not to bring!!!
Also if anybody can recommend some good hostels in Perth, would be great.
No one can give you an informed answer regarding your laptop when you give no clue whatsoever what you may need it for.
There are many, many reasons to travel with a laptop: If you use your laptop for work or if you're a hardcore geek doing constant blog/Facebook updates or if you're a serious photographer, etc. etc. etc. - these are (obviously) excellent reasons to have your own laptop/software with you.
If you're only checking email every few days then perhaps that's a different situation... your call...
Have fun.
Cheers,
Terry
yeah the reason im on the fence about bringing it, is because ill have my iphone with me
If it's for emailing/FB/blog, an iPhone should be enough (though blogging large amounts of text on an iPhone can be tiring), but like Terry says, it really depends on what you'll be using it for most. If you are a serious photographer, a laptop is probably a must have on a longer trip for resizing/storing etc. Or if you are into coding websites/working while you travel, then you'll also need it. If you want minimal hassle and things to be worried about being lost/stolen, travelling without is the way to go. Then again, consider also that in one year's time your laptop will also be pretty outdated (unless it's brand spanking new now), so having it sit in a cupboard at home all that time is a bit of a waste of the money you've spent on it. Last but not least is the weight.... you'll hardly notice a macbook air, but if it's one of those 5 kilo laptops, I'd do whatever I can to leave it at home
Oh, and a ps regarding the hostels question, did you check out Travellerspoint's selection of ? We've merged the listings from both Hostelworld and Hostelbookers, so more choice than you'll find on any other hostel booking site
