Questions about Transit passes Australia, Bus,train, ferry

Hello,

Hi Henk

There are different type of passes that you might be interested in:

1) City transport - for instance in Sydney you can get MyMulti tickets covering bus/train/ferry, and they go in zones depending how far out you want to travel. But also watch out for off peak train tickets after 9.30am if that is all you want to use on that day, or 10 journey bus tickets - much cheaper than individual tickets.

2) Train - there are train passes for around different states (eg. Backpackers Pass for NSW) and accross Australia. But just remember that the train network here is not like Europe - not nearly as extensive and won't get you everywhere you want to go. Buy a discount card (like YHA - sorry, one plug) to get discounts on these passes. Google Rail Australia.

3) Greyhound - the most extensive transport network, particularly for along the East Coast and lots of pass options. Again save with YHA card - usually 10% off. Go to greyhound.com.au for more info.

Good luck

Janet

FWIW, these discounts apply with any backpacker card. So also VIP (and Nomads, I think), and they should also be there with an ISIC card.

yha_backpacker: Kindly don't give in to the temptation to do any further plugs. We interpret the "no advertising" and "no websites for promotional purposes" points of our very strictly, so there's no grey zone for advertisers to exploit, and the forum remains for and by travellers.
