Chinese visa requirements

Hi all,

The Chinese have always wanted an itinerary, which you can make up. They do not check.

They will just need proof that you are leaving China, not that you are returning to a destination.

I would think that they want a hotel reservation for the first night?

A single entry visa is valid for upto 3 months.

Thanks for the help.
It is stated on the embassy site that they require hotel bookings in the main cities of the itinerary. I hope it is enough with the first nights anyway. And how can I prove that I am leaving China when I wont have return tickets? Will it be enough to just state in my visa application that I am crossing into Vietnam after a month?
My plan is (was) to cross into Vietnam, and after spending my time there head to India to visit friends. These tickets will be booked during my travels, and not before applying for my visa to China. I really hope it can be done this way, cause I dont like planning too much before traveling....

As Cyberia says, they don't really check your hotel or itinerary.
I've applied for about 6 Chinese visas in the last 2 years, and every time I just give made up information. In fact, at the tourist office in Hong Kong where I apply, they have a Chinese hotel catalog at the desk just for the purpose of picking out fake hotels for your application. According to my application, I've been staying at the Shangri-la all across China. Not likely. For my itinerary, the agents tell me just to pick a bunch of cities at random. I've never had a flight, because I always go overland from Hong Kong, but that part could be different if applying from Norway.
