I ask because im planning on taking a trip there but many people are telling me dont bother with it and choose a different place lmao..thanks
Indiana wouldn't make my list of "Top 1,000 Places To See," but that's just me.
Why did you choose Indiana?
Cheers,
Terry
Yea I agree with Terry. Probably at least one or two other places that might be a wee bit better.
Well, I have to disagree with this advice, because Bloomington is very much worth a visit.
Bloomington, about 45 miles south of Indianapolis, is one of the top-ranked small college towns in the United States (along with Ann Arbor, Michigan; Athens, Georgia, and College Station, Texas).
The college is ranked as one of the top 5 most beautiful colleges nationally (recently ranked 3rd in a student survey) and its downtown area (6th street near the main city hall square) has some real fun restaurants and student hangouts. Some of the best of these are Malibu Grill, Kirk's, The Farm, and my favorite, Uptown Cafe. (I was here two years ago for three days and ate at all of these places).
The school is most famous for its music and theatre programs. There are multiple free museums on site, and the second largest student union building in the United States. Unlike most of the midwest, which is very flat and not interesting at all, the city sits in a rolling, slightly wooded area, and has a large lake for boating nearby. If you decide to go there, consider attending one of their 40 different music/theatre/cinema events that makes up this year's Summer Series.
Here is some details on some events:

Click on the links at the left side for more info on each different type of event.
P.S. They also have a great college basketball program and was by recently ranked by Sports Illustrated as the probable #1 rated team at the start of the coming year (September 2012-March 2013). Because of this, you will have to buy tickets as early as possible. The games are played in their "Assembly Hall" building on campus.
It is also famous as being the town that John Mellencamp was writing about when he wrote his song "Small Town". The town's entry sign proclaiming "Bloomington--All-American Town" was even featured in the original video in multiple shots. The song talks about the advantages of growing up and living in a smaller, less complicated town that has a lot of very supportive and caring people.

Here are the lyrics to that "Small Town" song:
It should be noted that after having a very successful singing career, John Mellencamp moved back to Bloomington (his home town) and can be seen around town or at the local football games often (according to people I know who live in Bloomington)
Small Town lyrics
"Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Probably die in a small town
Oh, those small communities
All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity
Educated in a small town
Taught to fear Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another born romantic that's me
But I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be
Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and that's good enough for me
Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me."

John Mellencamp is probably one of the best known artists who sang songs about American life and small communities (along with Willie Nelson). If you liked this song, listen to three of his other hits: Pink Houses and Paper In Fire and Crumblin' Down. He is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
