1. Which is better? Well Colombo has beaches... and it's close to other cities with beaches as well.
Are you planning to visit one of those cities only, or will you travel around the county afterwards?
Neither city is a particular highlight of its respective country and I wouldn't recommend spending long in either. I think a day is enough in Yangon so you can see Shwedagon Paya by day and night. Most travellers skip Colombo altogether and instead head to Negombo (around 40 mins away and closer to Colombo airport than Colombo itself) for some beach time and then head off to see the rest of the country.
Yangon is definitely cheaper, probably similar to Cambodia; I found Colombo and all of Sri Lanka to be quite expensive compared to anywhere in SE Asia.
I would choose Yangon, and travel around Myanmar afterwards. It's a fantastic country!

Thanks...
I really have no idea what's there... I like looking at maps, and Sri Lanka looks like a pear shaped diamond. Yes, I read about Negombo. Well the flight to Myanmar is cheaper. I just can't find the embassy website... Anyway, I'm going to other places before I choose between the 2. I was gonna choose Colombo... Glad I didn't. I was only thinking of going to Colombo, Negombo and Kandi.
I get excited about traveling, only when I'm already abroad. I'm going somewhere expensive on my 1st stop. Still in Asia...
There are so many place of interest in Yangon. Shwedagon Pagoda, the soul of Yangon,Sule Pagoda in downtown. Chauk Htat Gyi pagoda, beautiful reclining Buddha image.Nga Htat Gyi Pagoda and Botahtaaung Pagoda, ancient Pagoda.
Other Places are Tooth Relic Pagoda,Naga Hlaing Gu Pagoda, Mai Lamu Pagoda,Inya lake, arlain Nga Sint Pagoda, Saint Mary's cathedral, Yangon river jetty, National Museum, National Races Village, Htaut Kyant War Cemetery and Thanlyin and Kyaut-tan Pagoda.
I think that Colombo is better
