That's very misleading to give advice from something you've just pulled off the internet, and have no experience of. The data in that link is for Bombay, one area of India. Saying it's very wet over all the country would be like looking at Florida in December and saying all of America is a balmy temperature all winter.
The monsoon in India sweeps across from the Indian ocean in from the south east and works its way north. So in June you can still be ahead of the monsoon in many places. Good places to go at that time of year are Rajasthan which has amazing forts and desert and very different culture from other parts of India and my favorite Himachal Pradesh and little "hippy" villages like Manali and Old British summer towns of Shimla
Two must visit area if you are visiting India is Rajasthan-lots of forts, culture and handicraft and Kerala-great beaches and food. If you need to get feel of hippy culture Goa is the place to be. However, Goa and Kerala will be really rainy during the time you plan to vist.

It sounds like you would like Goa for the party/hippy scene. If you only have a couple of weeks you should start in Goa and then head to Kerala (it is further south along the west coast and the landscape is beautiful). When we went we only had two weeks in Kerala so we just hired a driver in Kochi to give us a tour for ten days. Some might say it is a cop out and you are not truly seeing and experiencing India when you have a guide, but screw them we had a wickedly cool young driver named Sunni that took us to swim in waterfalls in the middle of no where, he explained things you wouldn't figure out by just sitting on a bus (I now understand cricket), offered us supper with his own family and really made us feel like a friend, not a stupid tourist. Yeah it was more expensive than doing it yourself, but it is way more effective to see and do as much as you can in the little time you have. We went to Munnar and saw beautiful tea plantations in the hills, to a tiger reserve (didn't see a tiger, but saw wild elephants and lots of other animals), and on a houseboat tour of the backwaters. I highly recommend Kerala for a bit of your trip, but like every trip, once you get there and start chatting up people and making new friends things change and you end up doing something new. Be flexible and let India tell you what to do!!!!

You should definitely go to Goa!!!!! Is fantastic and like adresser said is great for the party/hippy scene. I spent a month there last year exploring the beaches etc and met some wonderful people. If you end up going and are looking for an experience that really immerses you into local culture then I really recommend in looking into Holiday with a heart volunteer opportunities. The experience I had with them was great and I felt like I had a chance to give a little back. The Holiday with a Heart team pick you up from your hotel in the morning and take you to the project you have chosen to support, look after you all day and then drop you back after. You can choose from either their ‘People’ projects, that support children who have little or no access to education (I did this one working in Calangute – it was fab!), or their ‘Planet projects’ which help environmental or animal charities. You get to meet such wonderful people and really get to learn about the country. They also organise the day so you’re always busy and maximise your time there. If you are looking for something a little different that gives back, I definitely recommend this. I was tired afterwards, but it was the most rewarding and eye opening thing I have ever done.
Wherever you end up going I'm sure you will have a fantastic time though as it really is a beautiful country.

Thanks so much for your advice, i have some great ideas now. I am now looking at india august or september time.
I will be going to Goa and possibly even volunteering as Buddy D said
However the main question i have is will the weather in Goa be brighter in September time?

You will have a great time As for the weather I haven't actually been in September but I think its in the last stage of the monsoon season. However I have heard from friends that Goas weathers pretty good all year round.
