I hope they are not as bad as the British tax office. It took me over a year of letters, emails and complaints to get a tax refund from them.
The deadline for self-lodging your tax return for 2011 tax year was the end of October.
If you go through an accountant, they can still lodge it in the next couple of weeks though, so maybe that's an option though you have to hurry!
Peter is corect, you had to do it yourself by the end of October, try contacting a professional company who specialist in helping backpackers with their tax returns for help. If you've earned under 14K in total and been in Aus for at least 183 days within the financial year then you should get 100% of the tax refunded...
