I am thinking of doing a solo trip here in the middle of June and i was just wondering from those who have been, is it a place you would visit on your own?
Bucharest isn't that dangerous. The main things to watch out for are pickpockets in crowded places or vehicles and stray dogs (especially outside the central/tourist area). If you use taxis don't get into ones that charge more than 1.39 lei/km (rates are written on each cab's doors), they'll rip you off .
However, if you only have time for one place in Romania there are other better choices than Bucharest - specifically the major cities in southern Transylvania (Brasov or Sibiu), they have a lot more to see (medieval quarters, castles and mountains on their outskirts etc.)
Or, if you're mainly into partying, in June it would be best to head for resorts on the Black Sea coast, like Mamaia or Vama Veche.

Bucharest is a really nice city. I think you can go there solo at anytime. I have been in Bucharest several times. There is excellent public transportation and it is actually a really cheap city. So, no problems to go there. I hope you enjoy. I recommend to read this article on Bucharest written by a good friend: -snip-
