Istanbul Accommodation

Hello,
I will be speding a few nights in Istanbul in mid Movember with my wife and infant son. We are looking for an apartment close to the tourist centre for about 4 nights. Ideally something that is clean and has a kitchenette (can be a studio apartment) & a western toilet. Looking for good vaue or someone that is negotiable.

I dont know any apartment but hotels may come in handy.

I was in Istanbul last Oct and used the service to find an apartment near the Galata Tower. Airbnb has a large number of units in Istanbul at all prices. Most of the units are not in the Old City, but I was located within walking distance of the Galata Bridge and trams to all parts of the city. Istanbul is not especially cheap, so choose wisely and pick a convenient location.

The Galata Tower area is a great place to stay because it's really midway between modern Istanbul (Istiklal Cadessi pedestrian street is just up the street) and the Old City (where most tourists stay). I was very happy to be in that location because I really do love to see sights on foot. I could walk to the Grand Bazaar, the ferries, the cruise port, the trams, etc. Public transportation is excellent in this area - just a little crowded at rush hour. Best experience I had in Istanbul was to take one of the walking tours from Istanbuleats.com.

Hey Daawgon,
Thanks for the advise, sounds like a good neighborhood and website. Will check it out.
Best regards,
George

For your information, the neighborhoods near the Galata Tower are called "Bereketzade" or "Müeyyedzade". I also recommend the "Cihangir" area. If you want to be in the tourist-heavy area, you want the "Sultanahmet" area. Istanbul is a huge city - pick a convenient location, or you could have problems.
