Transit in Heathrow

doooola has indicated that this thread is about London

What you will need is a letter from your relative, keep the envelope with the post mark. Go through customs and explain you just staying overnight and you want to see him again and show the officer your onward ticket as proof.

You will need an overnight bag with essentials that you can take on the plane and leave Heathrow with as your hold luggage may be booked straight through to Washington DC.

Be nice to the officer. They can say yes or no.

Thanks alot for your reply
but Whats my cousin going to say in the letter ? Can u please tell me the exact content of the letter..Also What if the officer said no? Can i stay the 20 hours in heathrow airport? my flight to washington will be from Terminal 5..
Thanks alott..

Tell your cousin to say he has not seen you for a very long time as you live in different countries and let him suggest that you visit him if you can since you have time while at Heathrow for 20 hours. It will need his address and how to get there from Heathrow as well as a phone number the officer might use. As I said, keep the envelope as proof you did not write it yourself.

It is down to the officer so as I said, be nice to them. Most are reasonable and if you show your onward ticket to Washington with accommodation booked there or people you will be meeting there (who could also send you a letter).

It is really not much different from visiting Britain for a holiday where you would expect to get a visa so you may get a six month visa (they don't do 24 hour visas).

There has been moaning in the newspapers about waiting times at Heathrow customs with people waiting anything from 90 minutes to three hours.

Thanks alot I hv send you a message
please read it ...
