That's nowhere near enough money. Not even close.
You either need to save a LOT more money, lose the expensive destinations altogether and go for a shorter period of time, or plan on getting work visas for Australia and New Zealand.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Terry
Your £5K should get you through the first 5 countries plus a bit of time in Oz, but you'll definitely need to work in order to continue after that.
I would think £1,000 a month in Australia at the very least. Possibly the same in New Zealand.
What are you going to do in Australia for 6 months? Australia has some of the most expensive cities in the world:

You could easily spend 2 months in India, with a rail pass getting you around.
2 months in Thailand. You get 30 days visa free on arrival by air so maybe a day or two in Penang (AirAsia) and back for another 30 days. Beaches, towns, trekking, etc.
Vietnam is cheap and you can get a train up the coast over a number of days.
China has lots and lots to see. A week is a look around Beijing.
Japan. Is that a week in Tokyo? You can buy a rail pass outside of Japan for use inside.
To really see NZ you need a car but car hire is expensive there.
As to timing, do you like rain?
April is the end of the good weather in much of Asia and May-June the monsoons as in very heavy rain starts. It can go on day after day. The dry weather starts again around November.
Hi guys,
Thanks for all of your comments, its really helped me!
I'm planning on working in oz and nz as I'm aware I don't have as much money as some travellers.
Will anyone be going away at the same sort of time?
Lisa
Cyberia you have been very helpful!
Do you think it's best to maybe go to oz and nz first and then go to Asia afterwards.
The reason why we chose April is jus purely down to price as its cheaper but we haven't quite worked out which order were going to do things in.
Thank you :-)
It is cheapest because it's off season, when not many people go.
Yes, Oz and NZ first. Parts of Australia can have good weather even in their winter. NZ South Island is of course cold in June to August while North Island is not too bad usually. One time I was there in January, their summer, and it rained and rained. 1994, I think.
Check out the weather now and over the next few months in Oz and NZ.
