I might be wrong here, but Don Sak is pretty much just a drop off point for the ferry to Koh Samui. Usually you'd buy a ticket which would include a bus ticket to Surat Thani. Either way I think you are better off just going straight from Samui to Surat Thani and yes you can get either a VIP bus or mini bus to Krabi. Ive done it on the local bus but broke it up with a stop at Khao Sok which is amazing. There are pictures of it in my profile here

Dodger gave you good advice. Almost everyone on Samui will buy the combo ferry-bus to ST. There are coaches leaving every hour for Krabi from the ST bus station. The travel shops will try to sell their minivan option. I think you will enjoy the full sized coach over being crammed into a minivan. Too many van drivers drive like they have a death wish IMO. Take the coach from the bus station is my advice. Good luck with your planning.
