Hi i am planning on going to australia in may/june 2013. When should i apply for my visa and book my flights? do i need the min amount of money in bank b4 i apply for the visa?
apply for your visa first before you book your flights,once you visa is approved then book your flights you can get it at any point but once your visa is approved you then get 1 year to use the visa by!! i sorted mine out about 2/3 months before travel

It can sometimes take a few weeks to process your visa, so I'd say the latest to apply is 2-3 months before you travel, just in case there are any problems. Once it has been issued you have a year to enter the country, so there's no problems applying early. Buy your plane tickets after you have your visa.
No, you don't need the minimum bank balance when you apply for the visa. You won't need that until you actually arrive in Australia. A copy of your most recent bank balance is usually all that's needed and they don't always ask for it at immigration.
