Where to and How to?

Hi all,

You first need money. Travel is expensive, and it will also depend on what kind of accommodation you want and what lifestyle you want while abroad.

Decide where you want to go and make sure you are not going in the rainy season or in their winter when it can be very cold.

A RTW ticket means you should travel in one direction and cannot go backwards but you can buy side flights for such cases. You can land in one part of a country and take off in another part or even another country. You can leave sections open if you are not sure of dates but don't expect to just walk into an airport in the busy season and get a seat anywhere.

There are numerous budget airlines about for general flights but to get the best prices you should book early. Kayak is quite good for general flights. Changing the flight date just by a day or two can sometimes save money.

The same with accommodation whether you want cheap with hostelbookers (which also does hotels) or better with companies like lowcostholidays.

Some countries you will need visas.

Get some idea of where you want to go and then ask some specific questions here.

Why not start off with some short trips somewhere? Of course, flights and accommodation prices go up when the kids are off school, as in shortly.

RTW tickets can vary depending on where they are purchased and where you begin your journey.

There are more than 1,000 airports which is great, but there usually is a maximum amount of flights you can take. You can save big money if you plan your trip right, tickets can get so expensive so this could be a way to save, I don't know where you will purchase the tickets from but usually you can use them during a year so you can really stay in a place for a while if you would like. If you start collecting your frequent flyer miles you can really stack them up! Good luck if you go!

For someone without a clue, I urge you to use travel professionals for the first trip. Start out with a shorter trip at first, and once you get the hang of it, come back to this site and look around for a longer trip.

Im in the same boat! Have no clue where to start!? Soo exciting though have you thought of places you guys want to go yet?

Firstly you should chart out what places you want to visit. than google map and see which places can be routed along together. next step is to research more on these places to know what hotel stay and eatout options you have. whether tours are available and how you can commute. this will be your rough draft. then you must visit a travel agent and discuss your researched prefferences with him. he will guide you the upon the rates and cost of hotelling and commuting, etc. its more fun to plan your own customized trip instead of going on the pre-set holiday packages being offered nowadays. because these pre-set packages may have alot of places you may not be interested in. its you holiday. spend it doing what only you want to! cheers

pick a first destination and go their, then once there look for somehere else and then move on.

thats what i want to do
