Will be heading to New Zealand at the end of the year for 2 weeks. Any suggestions as to where to visit?? Prominent places and must-see sites.

If you're not here already then here are some places I can recommend for you.
I'm going to assume you are flying into Auckland?
If so, you can rent a car and easily drive south to the following locations (or bus):
Rotorua!!
Waitomo
Taupo
If you want to head further south Wellington is one of my personal favorite places in NZ. Napier is also quite nice.
This to me would EASILY take up 2weeks. If you wanted to hit the South Island then I would recommend going:
Auckland>Rototua>Waitomo>Auckland for one week then flying to Queenstown or Nelson and spending a week down there in either of their respective surrounding areas.

Get a car and you can please yourself when and where you go. I never had any problem with B&B and guest house accommodation that time of year.
With a car, you drop it off at one ferry terminal, go across as a foot passenger and pick up another car on the other island from the same company, at no extra cost.
Must sees depend on what you like. I like the towns big and small but also visit places like Rotorua, Fox Glacier, etc. Check out a Lonely Planet guide book. Well worth the money.
PS. The traffic police are quite sharp and issue expensive on the spot fines for traffic misdemeanours, especially in the Auckland area, and there are speed cameras.
