Hi there,
Don't stop in Los Angeles, keep going farther south. PCH changes dramatically as you drive south, from steep cliffs that will make your heart stop to rolling hills and vineyards, to beach communities perched right on the Pacific.
Also, there's little bit of Hwy 1 (what we had before we had the 101 freeway) that goes through Malibu with very little traffic, which is rare as you will discover. It is a peaceful part of SoCal with a big Farmers Market on Sunday.
PCH is an awesomely beautiful drive.
I wish I could join you because I know you will love it.
