Ideally somewhere near your job. Look around and send out some letters to seek employment at a hospital, nursing home or whatever. The recession has tightened jobs up some from several years ago so ideally you should have something ready rather than waiting till you get there. This site might help:

Remember proof of qualifications, references from past employers, etc.
There are some 400,000 Australians living in England, with half living in London, mainly in Earl's Court, Kensington, Hammersmith, Fulham, Shepherds Bush and Putney boroughs.
London is an expensive place to live (but then again, Australia is not cheap).

I knew there were quite a few aussies over there, but did not realise so many! I hope to end up somewhere with not so many, but I definitely agree with you, ideally I should be getting something ready before.
