Hi! Im Claudia .The easy way to go from Malaysia to Bangkok .If you are a "newbies" here in Thailand or Asia, Don't worry try to get a cheap ticket to Bangkok (BKK), reserve your flight early enough. Prepare your travel and if you short of time, take the local "Bangkok Airways" or new "Thai Airways" to Ko Samui and the boat to the island. Everything on site organized for you, just follow the advises of the staff members. They know where you want to go (if you tell them correctly) and bringing you to the appropriate pier. There are several leaving points for the boat's in Samui. Check Time Schedule for all transportation possibilities to Ko Phangan.
Koh Phangan is famous for the Full Moon Party which is held on full moon night every month. This world-famous beach party brings thounsands of party lovers to the island.
Also is the tranquil places for visisitor to enjoy and the best place for you to relax and relife your mind after the hard work .
Make booking for your trip to Ko Phangan first day when arriving in busy BKK, you may find fully booked trains, plains and buses! Around Fullmoon (high season, Dec - March) it can get difficult to get a bungalow few day's before the monthly fullmoon event.
Train
A good cheap way is to travel with the train for long distances. 1. class (AC) or 2nd class sleeper (Fan). The trains leave at time and arriving a bit late. But always a connecting bus is waiting for you and even included in the ticket, when buying a so called "joint ticket" at first.
Tickets
Everybody at the Kaosan Road sales those tickets (different liners). This trip is best via Suratthan and boat.
New Route:
By train only until CHUMPON and from there taking the boat to Ko Phangan (stop over on Ko Tao). The times for the train are not very convenient. With the bus it fits better on this route and the bus ride is much shorter, about 6 hours.
Bus
The VIP Buses and the government buses are the cheapest way t travel in Thailand. Only to recommend, when young and finding easy sleep or traveling on budget! If you have time, even after a hard trip you wake up the next day on the beautiful island under palms at the beach, everything about the trip is far away.
It's a good way to save travel expenses.
Hi claudia
means you prefering me to take a flight to bangkok and then take a train right ?
any other way? because i heard from surat thani also i can go to koh phangan right ?
taking 1 hour board to koh samui ? is that correct ?
btw i'm local in asia i'm from malaysia
How much time do you have? Trains from Malaysia (even Singapore) go all the way to Thailand. These trains go through Surat Thani. You can take a bus from Hat Yai to Surat Thani.
Below link has some info on how to get to Koh Phangan.
Bus from Hat Yai to Koh Samui, etc.
Train to Surat Thani.
"and maybe some bit info about koh phangan because planning to go by end of this year ?"
A Google check will give you lots of info on Koh Phangan. My own personal opinion is that if you are a teenage male you will like Koh Phangan better than if your age is closer to 40 or 50 years old! If you are not a teenager, late twenties on up, and only looking to participate in adult nightlife you will be better served to do that in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya.
Hat Yai also gets millions of Malaysian tourists because it is easy to get to, some for the nightlife and massage parlors and easy access to alcohol. Some go for the shopping opportunities. Travel agencies in Hat Yai can arrange van rides to other places in Thailand.
Up to you.
hi there

Farhan,
Fly : KUL-URT. Since the ferry to Koh Phangan leaves from Surat Thani, this will be the easiest way to reach the island from KK. Good luck.
